about EARUNIT

History

Established in late 2008 at the initiative of composer Carsten Bo Eriksen (aka MBD73) together with 5 other composer colleagues. EARUNIT is dedicated to the commissioning, performing, composing, presenting and recording contemporary music in the field between electronic and acoustic music. The music often integrated with visual elements through new multimedia opportunities. Based on the respective composers own music and with a keen ear for the new, unfamiliar and unconventional, the goal of EARUNIT is to promote exciting and innovative music for an new audience as wide as possible.

Concert series

Each year concerts are organized in cooperation with different new music festivals as well as with different concert associations, for our forum for contemporary music in the mixture field between electronic and acoustic music and visual media art. EARUNIT has created a platform where the upcoming generation of composers can be heard and seen. Several of EARUNITs concerts will take place at LiteraturHaus in Nørrebro Copenhagen. LiteraturHaus is a small old church building which has been transformed into a modern concert place. The place offers a grand piano as well as PA system and a room with bar and stage. With the the right “downtown” atmosphere LiteraturHaus is perfectly suited for EarUnit concerts. However in order to get the music out to a wider audience EARUNIT is always searching for ways to promote it self working internationally with some of the best new music ensembles and musicians abroad.

Organization

EARUNIT works closely with Contemporanea and Copenhagen Art Ensemble. Two New Music ensembles in the Copenhagen area. Another initiative is the new AIR Speaker Orchestra consisting of cutting edge music written for speakers in different formations and sizes. Internationally EARUNIT has collaborated with the Berliner Adapter ensemble, and more concerts are planned in the future. Further exciting projects are planned in the coming years with a broad range of international musicians and ensembles from all over the world.

Composer price (from 2011)

With the help of different fundings EARUNIT commissions each year 3-4 new works from contemporary Danish composers. The commissioning is made in collaboration with one of the basis ensembles. All members of this order fund will subsequently be invited to a premiere of their works along with an invitation to meet fellow composers.

Record company EarUnit Music (from 2011)

EarUnit records and publishes its own music . It is distributed so that it is easy to find. The method will primarily be as internet downloading. We also publishes the music of new interesting composers. But first and foremost the recording/publishing fuctions as a documentation of our activities.
